What is a REAL blog?

On one of the groups I belong to, a member posted that she was looking for REAL blogs, blogs that talk about Mommy stuff. This kind of threw me for a loop. I thought it was perfectly acceptable to have blogs for giveaways, coupons and most important to me, my business. Also, I have this second blog because this is my escape from Mommyhood and Wifehood! LOL! I dont' want to talk about my husband and kids (as much as I love them!). I want to talk about movies and books; I want to provide inspiration and share things I find on the web, you know, fun stuff. So what are you thoughts on REAL blog content? Is it wrong to have a blog for your business? Should your blog just focus on one topic broad or narrow? Should people blog abou their business? I'm really interested!

  2. Real?? Whatever is in a blog is real. I blog about my hobby, family, fun challenges, even when I am blue I blog. I feel a REAL blog is a blog, period. Mommy or not. Just because we are not a pure mommy blog doesn't make it not REAL.

I follow all sorts of blogs. Some are not even pure mommy blogs. Book blogs, giveaway blogs, get fit blogs, scrapping/card making blogs and some are just fun blogs where they just blog about whatever comes to their minds.

Yeah people should be able to blog about their business. It is their blog and it is REAL:)

On one of the groups I belong to I saw a person say she was looking for interesting blogs and she was gonna follow it and asked you do the same. She is following some of my friends, but not me. Guess I wasn't interesting. Oh well:)

So..I would have been thrown for a loop too:)

  5. I am incredibly fascinated by the whole blogging thing. I think it's easier to go broad on a blog because that way you don't have to have a blog for each topic of your life! Let's face it, mothering 3 kids gives me plenty to talk about!
As for a business blog, my husband has one linked to his website (per my suggestion) because it can generate traffic and keep the website "fresh."
Thanks for following and leave me a comment sometime!

  6. Hi Margaret, thanks so much for stopping by to see me. I love meeting other ladies who have a love for dolls. What is so wonderful to me about blogging is we can each share whatever we feel a need to and feel good about doing so. It is up to the blog owner to decide what is the topic for the day. I visit different blogs. Some I follow, some I don't. It really just depends if the blog owner is someone that I have something in common with. I have found many kindred spirits in the wonderful land of blog. Encouraging comments have lifted my downcast soul many times. I hope you will visit me again and I will do the same of you....

    Much blessings to you.....

  9. That amazes me although it shouldn't. There are judgmental people everywhere so why would the blogospere be different.
There, in my opinion, is no such thing as a real blog. There are many types of blogs but they are all real!
Btw, I love both of your blogs! My daughter has a bitty baby twin and I will be ordering some clothes from you soon!

  10. Margaret -- interesting topic! I had to go and check the "official" definition of blogs. I liked this one best:

A frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts and Web links.

So many businesses today have blogs (including news stations, printed publications, etc.) that to say yours isn't real doesn't make much sense.

I love the variety of blogs out there on almost any topic that I am interested in as well as those that are very intimate and personal. Just like people, our differences make life more interesting.

  12. A blog is anything you want it to be! People have the option to find what interests them. I think a blog is to share what interests you and others with similar thoughts, will follow. You have a great blog!

  15. I blog about my passion, and the projects I create with my family as subjects, yes, it is also business because I like to help others do the same, but I believe that anybody can blog about anything they feel too, just like anybody is free to speak. It is up to the blog readers to read or follow the blogs that match their interest and that they like.
